Without working out or having an active
lifestyle, the raw diet or any diet is not going to work.
The two main components of health are diet and exercise. One without the other
is better than nothing, but will not result in the kind of long term good health
that is our birthright.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Have you ever worked hard on a recipe only to have it taste too bad to eat? When using high quality, expensive ingredients it can be very disappointing. Do NOT throw your food out. Read below how to RE-invent your food and have a zero waste kitchen.
Raw food is easy to "reincarnate". Recently I made a recipe I found in a raw food book. It was a ranch dressing that was described so well it made my mouth water. The end product? YUCK!!! I mixed the ingredients of the salad dressing with ground flax seeds to make a flat bread. The bread is good, full of nutrients and didn't take much time at all. No wasted ingredients = no wasted money.
Use my method to save yourself the pain of throwing out your money.
A savory recipe that doesn't work can be used as a base for soup, bread or crackers.
A sweet recipe that doesn't turn out well can be added to smoothies. Energy bar gone bad? divide it and use it as a smoothie base for the next few days.
If you aren't sure if it's savory or sweet, make it into a bread and you can't go wrong.
savory = soup, crackers, bread
sweet = smoothie
not sure = bread, crackers
I appreciate your feedback and questions. Thanks so much!!!!

Allen Mannies-“Elder Vegan”

My name is Allen. I am called “Elder Vegan” by many people. I am proud to be known as the elder spokesperson for the Raw Foods lifestyle. Although I am not that old (69 years) I guess I am the elder spokesman for the raw foods lifestyle. I believe eating raw, living foods is a requirement for being as healthy as possible. I have been studying food and nutrition for about 30 years. I began learning from the late Dr. Herbert Shelton of the Natural Hygiene movement and it has culminated with the living, raw foods life I live today.
When I began living the raw food way, my wife was aghast. She thought I had gone completely crazy, but she tolerated it; even tried to do it with me. I decided to be patient and allow the results to speak for themselves. One day she came to me and said if I wanted to stay on raw foods forever, it was OK with her, because after a few months on the diet, she weighed less than she had in many years. Now I think she is more enthusiastic than anyone about the diet.
At our family Thanksgiving dinner, I made a raw blueberry and a raw apple pie. When my wife, Doris, announced they were raw, the looks from the rest of the family told me she might have been better off keeping that fact a secret. I didn’t have to worry, though, because they were the first desserts to disappear that day. Since then I have had a few questions from the family looking for other ideas about going raw.
As I have progressed in my raw foods life I have noticed that many people are espousing raw foods but the information they offer is not always beneficial. I try to make sure that all the information I share will benefit everyone in every way possible. Whether trying to lose weight, ease the problems of ill health or simply be healthier, I offer guidance that promotes a better life both physically and mentally. Learn what it is like to have boundless energy and clarity of mind like you had when you were a child.
I am currently organizing a Raw Foods Support Group in the North Phoenix, Scottsdale area. I share the information I have with anyone who is interested in good health, lots of energy and optimum weight control. Good health or the same old aches and pains. The choice is yours. Contact Allen today at eldervegan@gmail.com to begin a great new life today.

I have tried (and continue to try) a lot of raw recipes. We enjoy making desserts for special occasions. Some of the recipes call for using almonds in the crust, but I have found time and again that using walnuts, pecans or sunflower seeds works much better. Maybe I need to practice more, but almonds just don’t work as well for me. Here are a couple of the recipes that we make and enjoy a lot. I’m sure you will, too.
Blueberry Pie
Crust
2 cups of walnuts or pecans
½ cup dates soaked for 20 minutes
Place nuts and dates in a food processor and process until it begins balling up in the bowl. If it still doesn’t look fine enough for you, add a teaspoon at the time of the water that the dates were soaked in. Don’t let it get very moist. Line the bottom and sides of a pie pan with the mixture and set aside.
Filling
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (fresh is always better)
½ to 1 cup dates soaked for 2 minutes
½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
2 TBSP hemp seeds (optional)
Process in the food processor until almost smooth and pour into the crust.
Refrigerate for two hours to overnight.
NOTE: The hemp seeds are used as a thickening agent and can be omitted if desired. The cinnamon is for those who like this flavor with blueberries. I do not use cinnamon.
Apple Pie
Crust
2 cups raw sunflower seeds
1 cup raisins
Process in a food processor until it balls up in the bowl. Press into the bottom and sides of a pie pan.
Filling
4 apples, peeled and cored
10-12 dates
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup agave nectar or honey
Process in the food processor until almost smooth and pour into the crust.
Refrigerate for two hours to overnight.
Depending on the type of apples you use, you may need more or less agave nectar. Try adding half the amount at first and taste it to see if it is sweet enough. Then, if desired, you can add the rest.

Better Than Eggnog
2 cups almond milk
3 small persimmons chopped into quarters
4 medjool dates, pitted
1 whole vanilla bean or 1 tsp of vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (substitute the jarred seasoning if you must)
Place all ingredients in your blender on high until nice and creamy
