CSPI "top 10 risky foods" list gets it wrong: We need more leafy greens, not
less
(NaturalNews) This week, the CSPI released a "risky foods" list aiming to reveal
the top ten riskiest foods responsible for most food-borne illnesses. Number one
on the list is "leafy greens." Does this mean people should stop eating leafy
greens?

INFO FROM OUR ONLINE RAW COURSE
The following is from our online raw certification course.

Our
world's soil has been depleted. Is it any wonder chronic fatigue is
epidemic? Is it any wonder we eat so much, in our instinctual quest for
nourishment? Not only is our soil depleted, it is actually toxic. Our food
is therefore toxic.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Do You Have to Buy Everything Organic?
Aside from the fact that organic food contains higher levels of essential living nutrients, organic foods are generally lower in residues and compounds that are severely harmful to your health, such as herbicide- and pesticide residues.
Organic vegetables and fruit are by definition grown without the use of damaging chemicals.
Barring that, the use of pesticides and herbicides in conventional farming practices pollutes groundwater, destroys the soil composition and encourages erosion. They’ve also been linked to the unexplainable “colony collapse disorder” that threatens pollinating honeybees around the world.
With all that in mind, the purchasing or growing of as much organic food as attainable, is not only better for your health, but for the health of the whole planet.
That said, still, certain fruits and vegetables are exposed to far more serious pesticide use than others. Also, with food prices rising, many are searching for ways to purchase the healthiest foods attainable at the lowest cost.
One such way would be to concentrate on purchasing certain organic items, while “settling” for others that are conventionally-grown.
The Environmental
Working Group, a nonprofit organization that supports policies that protect
global and individual health, put together the
Shoppers' Guide to Pesticides in Produce. It is based on the outcome of
nearly 43,000 pesticide tests.
Of the 43 different fruit and vegetable categories in the Guide to
Pesticides, the following 12 foods were the
lowest pesticide laden when conventionally
grown.
Therefore, asparagus, avocado, bananas, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kiwi, mangos, onion, pineapple, sweet corn and sweet peas are the safest conventionally grown crops to consume.
Meanwhile, these 12 fruits and vegetables had the highest pesticide load, making them the most important to buy or grow organic: apples, celery, cherries, grapes, lettuce, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, spinach, strawberries and sweet bell peppers.
Conventionally-grown strawberries, in general, were found to be extremely toxic directly linked to a lethal blend of pesticides in an earlier 2007 EU study as well.
Moreover, locally-grown organics are your comparatively best bet.
And often buying locally-grown food is your best choice even if it’s grown conventionally, as the environmental impact of exporting organic produce across the earth can counteract many its benefits. Organic farming standards are also unreliable in many parts of the world.

Georgie Halpin

It has been 36 years now since I was told I had cancer. My kids were small and I was scared that I would have to leave them for someone else to raise. I went along with the doctor and had the surgery, only to find out 10 years later that I never had cancer. It was than that I decided to try to change my diet and get healthy. I went to a meatless diet back to meat many times but I was still eating healthier than before (so I thought).
I have always been an emotional eater. Not a good thing for ones health.
When I was in my 30's I had, a severe case of fibrocystic disease, and after 13 years of pain I gave up and had the double mastectomy that the doctors had told me I needed to have. Little did they or I know that if I would have eaten all raw, I wouldn't have had to get the surgery. Life's lessons are hard, and it seems that the only way I learn is the hard way.
I started to learn about raw foods and what they could do for me. I took a year course and became certified. Then I went to Creative Health Institute for a few weeks and earned a certificate there. About a year later I took the Ekaya courses (through www.therawvegannetwork.com ) and earned all my certifications.
There have been bumps in the road where I would go back to eating some bad things. I never went below 60% raw. Now I can say that I am all raw and loving it. My skin is better than it has been in years. I am healthier and have so much more energy. I walk for 4-8 miles at least 4 times a week, ride a bike and take an exercise class. I am looking forward to my 63 rd Birthday soon and I am ready to help other achieve their dreams of being healthy.
Because of my ups and down I believe that I can understand my clients better and can give support with an open mind and heart.
