IN THE GARDEN

Rake leaves from your yard before the first snow. You can rake some leaves into flower beds to protect young plants from freezing during the winter.

As the pine trees drop their cones gather some for holiday decorations to be used as part of wreaths or evergreen ropes to place on mantels or over doorways. They also can become tree ornaments.

WISE CHOICES

Choose activity over inactivity.

Minor activity burns calories and adds to general strength and vitality.

Instead of taking the elevator, use the stairs.

Park a little farther from the front door of the mall, office building, church or store.

***********************************************************************

WALKING THE WALK

For injury free exercise and walking stretching is essential.

To warm up the muscles walk for about 5 minutes before stretching. It is easier to stretch a warm muscle than a cold one.

To avoid pulling or harming muscles, stretch lightly and gently.

To provide oxygen to the muscles, breathe while stretching.

Move through your whole body, stretching all muscle groups.

Hold each stretch for 30 seconds.

Calf stretch: Stand at arms length from wall.  Lean into the wall, bracing yourself with your arms. Place one leg forward bending the knee. With knee straight and heel down extend the other leg back for the stretch. Keep your back straight and move your hips toward the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold for 30 seconds. Relax. Repeat with other leg.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Whole Person Exercise

Exercise means to put something into effect (consequence, end product, outcome, result, bring about, cause, produce), to use something in order to develop (expand, mature, grow, age) it or experience benefit (useful, advantage, profit) from it.

We use our muscles, hearts and lungs to generate (create, make, spawn, bring about) fitness (order, condition, repair, shape, trim).

We use our minds to mature (develop, grow, cultivate, produce) in knowledge (education, learning, information, data), understanding and wisdom.

We use our emotions (feelings, passion, affections) to address (direct, aim, point, train, turn, route, occupy, apply, pursue) and resolve (clear up, solve, decipher, unfold, figure out) problems and produce personal (individual, private) and community (society, people, public) justice (just due, equity).

We use our spiritual strength (power, energy, force, stability, steadiness, substance, toughness, healthiness) to prepare (make ready in advance, gird, fortify, strengthen) ourselves for eternal life.

Every aspect of our beings can and should be exercised (applied, exerted, operated, used, practiced, studied) to its maximum potential.

HOW MY RAW FOOD JOURNEY BEGAN BY JANELLE MORGAN

Bothell, Washington

Jsmiley71@aol.com

This time last year, I purchased a great book titled NATURAL CURES “What They Don’t Want You Know About” by author: Kevin Trudeau.  I read it and then decided to clean out every conventional food item that I had ever bought.  I started eating only organic food along with beef, chicken and fish too.  As I started more of my own research, I then decided about 7-8 months later that I would stop eating beef and chicken and just stick with fish.  Then after about a month of eating fish, I decided to incorporate into my diet more raw vegetables and leafy greens.  So, then, I gave up eating fish altogether and was so drawn towards the raw food diet and the health benefits.  I have also been cleansing and detoxifying which has made a great difference in my life.  I have been doing this journey with my best friend and we have been positive support for each other.  About 6 months ago, I decided to be a vegetarian, then a raw vegan, now I am in transition to becoming a fruitarian and this has all happened within one year’s time frame.  I feel so full of energy and vitality.  I haven’t had any ailments but there are cleansing/detox reactions which are not the greatest at times but once they have healed, I don’t have any problems again for while.  The deeper the cleansing and detoxifying, the more I feel better health wise.  I am 90% raw and loving it.  My goal is to be 100% raw and not have the occasional chips.  I did go on a 7-10 day juice fast and wow, that was so amazing and just a great way for me to really cleanse more.  It made me feel on top of the world.  There is so much more to just eating a raw diet in addition is emotional, mental, physical, and of course the spiritual path.  I have a new life path and it feels really great.

Zucchini Pasta al Pesto     1 serving

1 zucchini, peeled

2 tablespoons marinara sauce

Cut zucchini into thin noodles using a vegetable spiral slicer. Alternatively, use a vegetable peeler to create long ribbons, by drawing peeler down all sides of zucchini until you reach the core.  Place in a medium bowl and toss with the marinara sauce.  Serve immediately.  (Marinara sauce: 1 ripe tomato, seeded/chopped (1/2 cup)-1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, soaked(2 hours)-1/2 red bell pepper, chopped (1/2 cup)-2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil- 1 tablespoon minced fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried-1/2 teaspoon crushed garlic (1 clove)-1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon salt-dash black pepper (optional)-dash cayenne.  Place all ingredients in food processor fitted with S blade and process until smooth.  Stop occasionally to scrape down sides of the bowl with rubber spatula.  Stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator, Marinara Sauce will keep for three days.

Not Peanut Butter Cookies      makes 8 cookies   4 servings

½ cup raw almond or cashew butter (I prefer cashews)

¼ cup pure maple syrup, agave nectar, or raw honey (I prefer pure maple syrup)

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

dash salt

½ cup ground almonds or cashews (I prefer cashews) ( I chop these in food processor first then put these in a small bowl for later when I have other ingredients ready).

Place almond or cashew butter, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt in a food processor fitted with S blade and process until smooth.  Transfer to small bowl and freeze for 30 minutes.  Form into 1-inch balls and flatten slightly.  Roll each cookie in the ground almonds or cashews.  Freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.  Stored in a sealed container in the freezer, Not Peanut Butter Cookies will keep for up to one month
