 IN THE NEWS

Subject: Take action now for your freedom to speak about nutrition.

Help support NJ Health Counselors fight back against Senate Bill 1941. If passed, this bill will only allow Registered Dietitians to "furnish nutritional information" or engage in the "explanation to persons as to the use of food." We must stop the American Dietetic Association before legislation like this is passed in all 50 states. New Jersey is where we start.
Take action now for your freedom to speak about nutrition.
Your role is simple: Dial the numbers below and say, "I'm calling to oppose Senate Bill 1941." This bill proposes that in New Jersey only Registered Dieticians will be allowed to speak with clients about nutrition.
Robert Singer: (732) 901-0702
Joseph Vitale: (732) 855-7441
The ADA's mission is to serve the public as "the most valued source" of good advice about food and nutrition. But the ADA receives more than $3 million from Wendy's, McDonald's, PepsiCo, Taco Bell, Hershey's and more. On the ADA website you'll find tips on how to make a family dinner healthier--sponsored by Wendy's.
The U.S. Government recommends 3-5 servings of vegetables, 2-4 servings of fruits and 6-11 servings of grains a day. When was the last time you saw a tray filled with greens, fruits and grains at Wendy's?
Read more about troublesome partnerships with the food industry: Dietitians and their company sponsors make strange buffet fellows.
If this bill passes, New Jersey citizens will lose the freedom to seek dietary advice from nutrition experts of their choice. We don't allow monopolies in business, so why would we allow Registered Dietitians to monopolize the field of nutrition?
Dr. Neal Barnard, founder and president of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine says: "If standardization of the nutrition practice is left in the hands of a single professional organization, the potential bias caused by financial arrangements raises important questions...It is a dangerous mistake to establish in law a monopoly on nutritional counseling."
Michael Jacobson, PhD, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest says: "I'm very troubled by laws that prevent anyone--including professors of nutrition--from giving nutrition advice, unless they are registered dietitians."
If this bill passes, millions will be impacted. The bill claims that the health and welfare of the residents of New Jersey will be protected by identifying to the public those individuals who are qualified and legally authorized to practice dietetics/nutrition. The citizens of New Jersey certainly need protection--but not from Health Counselors.
The time to call is now! Pick up the phone to have your voice heard.
Your urgent call to action is simple:
1. Make the call now.
2. Forward this email to everyone you know.
3. Ask them to call and forward this email.

**The offices are currently taking a tally of who opposes or supports this bill and your votes will be presented to the Senators when they meet again in September. So don't hesitate or feel intimidated--they want to know what you think. Read the entire bill here.

 IN THE GARDEN

**The olive tree is one of the longest living and most resilient trees, with many living more than a thousand years. Some olive trees in Israel may have been alive two thousand years ago when Jesus walked the earth.

During Jesus’ day, olives were eaten, but most olives were pressed into oil. The olive oil was used for cooking, in the making of bread and also as an ointment for making medicines, cosmetics and soaps. Castile soap today is made of pure olive oil. All olive oil is not equal. It comes in different grades depending on the pressing from which the oil is derived. Whole, undamaged olives are pressed mechanically several times without heat. The temperature for extraction ranges from 58 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (“cold-pressed” oil). Extra-virgin olive oil is oil from the first pressing where the oil is extracted, filtered, and undergoes no further refining. Virgin olive oil is from the end of the first pressing or from the second pressing. Never use olive oil that is pressed after the second pressing, as these oils are heated above 300 degrees Fahrenheit, which chemically changes the oil and causes the oil to lose many of its health benefits.  Studies show that olive oil helps decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and increases HDL (good) cholesterol levels. Olive oil also helps to decrease the stickiness of platelets, helping to prevent bloods clots and coronary thrombosis. Olive oil stimulates the gallbladder to help prevent gallstones and eliminate biliary sludge. It also relieves constipation. Olive oil is high in vitamin E, beta carotene, lecithin, chlorophyll and squalenes which helps deliver oxygen to bodily tissues. Research studies show that even the leaf of the olive tree has health benefits. Olive leaf extract is used in treating sore throats, sinusitis, skin diseases, and fungal and bacterial infections. Add olive oil to your overall eating plan slowly because it can have a laxative effect if you use too much too soon.

 FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Why Raw & Living Food?

You have probably heard of the new craze of eating no cooked food, but have you asked yourself why?

Pick up any book about the Raw & Living Food lifestyle and it will tell you the importance of enzymes.

Enzymes are what is needed for the body to work properly. Minerals, vitamins, and hormones cannot

work except in the presence of enzymes. Everything your body does (breathing, sleeping, eating etc. are

all dependent on enzymes. When we eat a meal that is deficient of enzymes (cooked), your body will

borrow them from elsewhere in your body, eventually depleting your body of these essential enzymes.

Quite a few people suffer from digestion problems, for example, gas, or feeling bloated after a meal.

When after eating a cooked meal, you feel tired because all of your body’s energy is now devoted to

digesting something that is foreign to it due to the fact that it was not provided with any enzymes.

When you are eating a high percentage of Raw & Living foods your body will change. You will lose

weight, and your skin will be tighter and healthier. For this to happen, your body depends on

mineralization. Minerals, in an assimilable form, are required for rejuvenation and beauty. If minerals

come through to us in the form of plants, then the body can assimilate them and utilize them

immediately.

Give yourself a challenge. Eat nothing but Raw & Living Foods for a few days or weeks. You will notice

a difference in energy and how your body is feeling. “It is to Live for” as Victoria Boutenko would say.

Victoria and her whole family has been Raw for over 10 years. Their bodies healed from various

ailments. Check out their web site at www.rawfamily.com .

There are books available at your local library and Nutritionists in your area that can teach you how to

start this amazing lifestyle. Start Living today by providing your body what it needs to be the living

body it should be. For a few recipes to get you started, see  Favorite Recipes below.

INTERESTING FACTS TO KNOW

Hold a bottle of frozen water between your wrists for 30 seconds. Then hold that same bottle of frozen water along side your neck (extending from your jaw to behind your ear) for 30 seconds on each side. Repeat. This can reduce your body temperature by several degrees in just a few minutes.

FEATURED NETWORK MEMBER

Nancy Telfer - Certified Raw Chef, Raw Nutrition Specialist, Raw Lifestyle Coach

www.rawsomenutrition.com / 519-272-2253

Stratford, ON, Canada

One of the turning points to Nancy Telfer’s life was the loss of her

Grandmother to colon cancer. That was over 20 years ago, but it was

that loss that turned Nancy to researching health and nutrition. The

research started Nancy on a path of self discovery that led her from one

healing remedy to another. It was on this path of self discovery that led

Nancy to a lifestyle of Raw & Living Foods.

Prior to a lifestyle of Raw & Living Foods, Nancy tried a variety of

different ‘diets’ all claiming to be the best. Digestion problems led her to

trying out this unheard of lifestyle called Raw & Living Foods. It didn’t

take long and the benefits of eating foods that were packed with

enzymes and nutrients were clear. The energy that you receive from

foods that are uncooked is amazing. The way your body feels is enough evidence that you need to

know that this is the way humans are meant to eat.

Its has now been 4 years that Nancy has been on a Raw & Living Food lifestyle journey. During

that time, she read as many books on raw food as she could find, and took classes (one of them

being the course available at www.TheRawVeganNetwork.com ), to increase her knowledge on this topic.

It is now, in 2008 that Nancy teaches about the benefits of Raw & Living foods through a business

that she started called Rawsome Nutrition. Rawsome Nutrition is not just about food though. It is

about the BIG PICTURE. It combines your thoughts, with the food that you eat. Nancy teaches

about the vibration of food, as well as your thoughts, and how your thoughts can change your life.

She explains that everything is energy, and that everything is about vibration, about your frequency.

Nancy has seminars on the Law of Attraction and how changing your vibration will bring into your

life what you want. Check out Nancy’s website at www.rawsomenutrition.com  for more information.
